I was trying to learn to use Outlook from Microsoft Office. For that purpose I tried to export some emails from Windows Live Mail.First I tried to export just the local inbox folder in Windows Live Mail. Windows Live Mail froze, it was automatically restarted. So I could not export only the local Inbox of one of the local email accounts. Then I tried to export all the folder from one of the local email accounts.A small window appeared telling me that the exporting of the emails took place.
I was never told to what location.I was not asked by the program to select a destination location.I still can see my local folders and the emails in them. But, to what location were the emails exported?Thank you for your attention. Hi JFJ-GYE,Welcome to Microsoft Community. Let us help you on your concern.I understand that you're wondering where the exported emails go. Windows Live Mail is supposed to ask you where the exported emails go every time you start the process. At this point, does it not prompt you to browse for a location for the exported emails?Try exporting emails again and tell us if you're still not encountering that dialogue box that asks you where to put the exported emails. If it still continues, please provide us the exact steps on how you export emails. We're looking forward to your reply.Thanks,Rhyan.
Thank you for your reply. When I am asked to export everything or select what I want to export, I elect to export what I select. I select one of the local holders where my emails are stored. A folder is created in my pst database in Outlook that seems that was created with that intention. But nothing is put in that folder. Then I try to export everything and avoid selecting what I want to export the program seems to try to export, the folders that the program created in Windows Live Mail when the accounts were registered. This was not necessary because the accounts had alreadybeen registered in Outlook. A folder for the local folders is created in my pst database but nothing it put in it. Windows Live Mail freezes and then it restarts. HiThank you for posting back.
To export your emails from Windows Live Mail, we suggest that you select the Microsoft Windows Live Mail format so that you can choose a folder to store the exported messages. Please follow the steps below to do this:. Open Windows Live Mail. Press Alt + F then Export email. Click Email messages. On the pop-up window, select Microsoft Windows Live Mail.
Click Next. Click Browse.
Then select the location to which you want to export the email messages. Click OK then Next. Select the folders that you would like to export then click Next. You would then receive a message that your messages were successfully exported using the Microsoft Windows Live Mail format. After that, clickFinish. Now, for assistance on how to import those emails (that you've just exported) to Microsoft Office Outlook, we request you to contact theteam so that they can walk you through for the steps.Let us know if you need further assistance.Regards,Glenda. Greetings,I am confused. Before your reply one of your parteners wrote: 'If you are exporting to Outlook, then messages are transferred direct into a PST file in a running instance of Outlook on the same Windows user profile.
Look in Outlook for your messages.' Then you write to me: 'To export your emails from Windows Live Mail, we suggest that you select the Microsoft Windows Live Mail format so that you can choose a folder to store the exported messages.'
Should I understand that the messages are not exported by Windows Live Mail directly to the pst file of Outlook? Can or cannot Windows Live Mail export the emails directly to the Outllook pst file?I tried following your suggestion and exporting the messages in Windows Live format to a directory of my choice. The emails are not exported.I also tried to look for an alternative in Outlook that lets me import the emails from the Windows Live Mail storage folder. The following is a screen capture of the alternatives.
I selected to import from another program or file, and the second image showsthe next screen that does not provide an evident solution.Once you select to 'Import from another program or file' you see the followign screen:Thank you for your attention. Hello,Thank you for coming back. If you're inquiring in directly exporting your Windows Live Mail emails to Outlook from Office, then yes, this is possible. I will need to answer here the same I have answered in another conversation in Microsoft Answers regarding sharing with you the log file. The information in the log file is not just my information. The email addresses at the end of the log are not mine.
A couple are mine, but the vast majority are not mine. They belong to other persons. I do have a sense of privacy, but it is not just my personalsense of privacy what prevents me from sharing the log. I have no authority to share a log with those email addresses in it, regardless of whether the emails I receive from those addresses or send to those addresses are relevant or not. Vienna symphonic library complete.
I have no authorityto share the log with those email addresses in it because those are not my email addresses.Thank you for your attention. In additioin to what I replied in my previous message, I inform that I had to hire 2 IT advisors to try to know what is causing this problem. After some tests in company of the second IT advisor it seemed to be evident that Windows Live Mail does not export storage-folders with many emails in the folder.
(I have not determined yet the quantity of emails that causes the failure In Windows LiveMail.)We tried exporting another folder in the storage directory, one with few emails, and that one was exported to Microsoft Outlook. So now the question is: Has Microsoft developed a solution to be able to export emails from Windows Live Mail to Microsoft´s Outlook regardless of the number of emails in the storage folder in Windows Live Mail?Thank you for your attention.
